Facebook Application Authorization Issues

5 Aug

Remember when all those quizes were going around Facebook? It was like next best thing before FarmVille came along. Everyone was taking those damn quizzes, and we allowed them access to our walls and personal info just so we could take them.

I remember doing like tons of those. All my friends were doing it and it was like a little fad. The tittles just made us so damn curious that we couldn’t resist spending a minute or so to get the damn results. What I do regret now is allowing all of them access to my information (especially when privacy concerns on Facebook are higher than ever).

What’s worse is that I currently have authorized over 200 applications (most of which are these little quizzes) and there is no way to revoke these permissions at once. I would have to fix them one by one and it would just take forever. This is really sad. I’m wondering why Facebook doesn’t look into this rather than pretending that they’re all so concerned about our privacy.

I’m gonna do some research and try to find a way to work around it. Maybe a 3rd party application. I hope I don’t have to do all this work manually and even if I have to, I’ll do it because I’m really concerned about giving so many people access to my info and especially when I’m not sure what they’re doing with it.

New Digg: Hoping For Democracy

5 Aug

As you’ve noticed Digg is working on switching over to a new system, so they’re currently not accepting any user registrations. Some of my friend have been waiting patiently to open accounts, but thank god I already have an account for myself.

Now I’m not sure what’s in store for the new Digg v4, but I’m only hoping that it is more democratic and that it allows the average user a fair chance to get their submissions to the front page. Like seriously the front page is like run by a handful of power users. Very unfair. And for that fact Digg has been losing a lot of users steadily over the past year.

The new Digg’s Twitter-like layout and everything looks much more social and cleaner, but we can only hope that everyone get’s a fair shot and not get abused by people trying to game Digg or the power users. Only time will tell and till then lets keep our fingers crossed.

And be sure to check out this preview by Kevin Rose (founder of Digg):

Justin Bieber Caused the Failwhale

4 Aug

Goddamn failwhale. I am not going to say anything about it except that it’s a creature which I and all of the twittersphere would love to see it go extinct. Anyways.

Justin Bieber! Crazy stuff. I am speechless. Over 4 million followers who tweet nothing, but total trash. Seriously! There are accounts that are just dedicated to him. I can’t believe people wake up in the morning just to tweet about this guy in hopes of him following back. Now I’m not jealous, but still. That’s some crazy loyalty (if not obsession).

I’m sorry but what’s so cool about having JB following you on Twitter? I know he’s a celeb and all, but its no reason to use up Twitter’s fragile, little resources. Oh and imagine being him; all those mentions. How does he even manage his Twitter? I hope he’s not running it all by himself (which is very unlikely).

Now what can we do about it? How do we manage this JB fan spam? What I’m about to suggest is highly controversial and may cause 12 year old girls an emotional outbreak, but lets limit the number of times per day you can mention @justinbieber or something along those lines.

I know Twitter would never do that, but still that might work, right?
