Doomsday on the Web!
That’s right. The title says it all. The web is coming to an end. Its not going to be here forever. It will come to an end. But not right. I have just realized this. And I am not joking! The web will come to an end!
Let me explain before you think that I’m high or just another crazy ass motherf**ker. Okay we host our sites on servers. And those servers are usually big. Like really big. Some companies have big ass data centers. Now those servers are taking up space. Lots of space on earth. And we are getting new sites everyday. That means we need more servers to host the sites on.
And now a days, hosts give us a lot of space and bandwidth and a lot of us put loads of crap on it just to see if they actually have that much space or are they just overselling. And after we have uploaded it, we don’t delete it. This means that the host will need another server, eventually.
Well this goes on and on. Lots of sites. Servers getting filled to the max. Now is space on earth unlimited? The answer would be no. And so the amount of space servers/data centers can take up is limited. And we are getting pretty crowded. So do you get my point? We’ll run out of space for servers/data centers. And the web hosts will probably start overselling like crazy. Cramming and jamming lots of sites into one server. Plus the price to get a hosting account will sky rocket!
Now I don’t know what the solution would be. Like putting all the servers up on Mars or making tiny servers that can hold a few hundred terabytes. If this goes on. We will run out of space.
So, enjoy the web while you can!
Few tips!
- Delete all the junk/crap from your hosting account or server.
- If you have a shitty ass site then shut it down and terminate the hosting account.
- Use the resources on your server reasonably.
- Don’t upload unnecessary stuff on sites like YouTube, Tinypic, RapidShare, etc.

Ever thought of smaller drives getting more space?

Yes I did. But how much can you make it hold? Well I’m thinking that a terabyte on a USB stick would be realistic.
Its like oil. We got tons but we will run out someday. Meanwhile we’ll get cars that eat less gas to run.

when will this happen in the next 100 years?

Well I can’t tell. Depends how fast the earth gets crowded. Right now, it is pretty crowded. So maybe within 30 to 100 years. That might be a close estimate.

well its therotecly possible, but you have forgotten that every day the things are getting smaller and smaller, like for example 2 years a go the max hard drive was 80 GB now there is 1 TeraByte Hard Drive same physical size as the 80GB HDD but much larger in disk space. and dont also forget the Nano-Tech.
So i think that the title should not be : Doomsday.
It should be something like : over crowded digital space or something like that.

That’s true. But you also have to think about the growing population. At some point we will literally run out of room.

There will be plenty of hosting companies and servers around.

Hard drives are getting smaller and smaller and less cooling is required on newer CPUs so this will not happen.

You can only fit a certain amount of ping pong balls in a box. Might take time to fill it up, but at some point it will be completely filled up.
Well this is going to take time. I guess don’t worry for now.
