.ME Domains – A Pricey Opportunity

16 May

Only three more days till the new .ME Top Level Domain (TLD) comes out. I don’t really think if there is a need for it. Well I might have use it if it had a reasonable price tag. But you know what? Its priced at $50 per year. WTF?

I’m sure that I’m not the only one who thinks this TLD is a bit too pricey. I was browsing through the Digital Point forums and I saw that a lot of people agree with me. Like c`mon 50 dollars? That’s too much.

But you know what? You could do something smart with these TLDs. Like make a sub-domain service (such as .co.nr) or just get a cool domain like talkabout.me, google.me, search.me, every1hates.me, etc. There are endless possibilities.

You could try investing in a few .ME domains. Try getting your hands on something related to Google, Windows, Microsoft or GoDaddy. I can guarantee one thing. If you can get a domain related to Google and make the site popular then you will get an offer from Google. Oh you can buy googlehates.me (good luck).

Where to buy them? Right now you could buy them from GoDaddy. Well good luck!

Buy domains from Netfirms

28 Jan

Every site needs a domain name and we always try to look for the best deal. Some of us manage to get it for free by posting at forums or some kind of (weird) deal. Now I would suggest that if you buy a domain then buy it from Netfirms.

You can get a domain (.com, .net, .org, .biz, & .info) for $5.95. It’s a pretty good deal. Oh what the hell, it’s a really good deal. Because it gives you free domain privacy. I have used Netfirms and I personally like them. Plus the support is pretty good.

And their hosting plans aren’t too bad either. Though I have never used their hosting services. They are actually giving us a better deal than GoDaddy.

Don’t register your domain with Yahoo!

29 Aug

Trust me, do not register domains with Yahoo!. Rather do it with GoDaddy or some Netfirms. I registered my domain with Yahoo, and it ended up being one of those sites that just contain Google ads. And Yahoo! is not even a domain registrar, they are just a reseller for Melbourne IT (some stupid company in Australia).

Bought my domain with Yahoo! for $2 (it was a promotion) and it worked fine until 2 days later an automated message tells me that my “Yahoo! Premium Service” was canceled for no good reason (at least send me an email explaining what happened rather than a general automated message).

Tried to contact the customer service (it was like impossible), then had to call them and wait 40 mins before i got to talk with one of the customer service people. They weren’t very helpful and told me to call sales department, and eventually they activated it back (i had to pay again).

Again 2 days later it canceled, with the same stupid automated message. Emailed them, and they were not helpful at all and were telling me to clear my cookies in my browser (so irrelevant!). Emailed them like 6 times, called them twice, but no one helped me. And my domain went into redemption period and i could not register it again (and i lost hope).

Some company bought my domain (yahoo! probably sold it to them) and they use it to display ads. And someone gave me a offer to buy it for $200. Well, I don’t know if I can get it back.
